My thoughts on “Al Otro Lado Del Muro”

Since the beginning of this course, I have been struggling to settle on which telenovela I wanted to watch and analyze throughout the semester. I knew I did wanted to watch a telenovela de ruptura because I love television series that are unconditional, unique and can keep me guessing. After watching and seeing choice after choice in Dr. Acosta-Alzuru's lecture, I still had no idea how I could decide on watching just one of the telenovelas that were presented to us.

After watching a little bit of a few different telenovelas, each one had failed to get me hooked as Dr. A said they would in class. I did not want to watch a telenovela that I would not enjoy for four months. I most likely would have dropped the class if I had to do that. After looking back at the list of telenovela clips we watched in class, I decided to watch an episode of the Telemundo telenovela, “Al Otro Lado Del Muro.” After watching the first episode, I am completely hooked.  I love the storyline and the two female protagonists, Eliza and Sofia. I want to know right now what happens to every single character. Why was she going over the wall? Her man has how many families? Where are the little girls?

I am really excited to keep watching this telenovela and analyze its contents. I can’t wait to see the political, cultural, and societal issues the writers tackle, the diversity of the characters and the roles that each one will play throughout the telenovela.
